Carers ACT

Carers ACT run a heap of services for people who are caring. They have support groups, counselling, respite for both the carer and their relative, heaps of information and workers who are there to offer help whenever you need it. For young carers, in particular, Carers ACT can help organise for the person that you care for to have some “Time Out” at Calvary Hospital. A bed is available from Saturday 10.00am to Sunday 4.00pm at Calvary Hospital. They have 24 hour care, assistance if required and meals, at no cost to you.  Call Carers ACT on for more info.

                                                                                                                                                 

Junction Youth Health Service

The Junction Youth Health Service is a service for young people aged 12 to 25 and is open Monday to Friday from 1pm to 5pm. It can be found on the corner of Marcus Clark and Rudd Sts in Civic (across from the Jolimont Centre. At the Junction you can access doctors, nurses and a counsellor all free of charge and you do not have to make an appointment, just drop in and get the help you need.

                                                                                                                                                 

Kincare Community Services

Kincare Community Services helps young carers with support at home (with cooking, cleaning and other bits around the place), transport, activities, mentoring and so much more. Their workers are awesome – always there to help when you need it and are also there to listen when you need a chat. Make sure you give them a chat cos it’d be worth your while.

Litmus supports Young Carers caring for a parent with a mental illness, the parent with the mental illness and other family members.

                                                                                                                                                 

Mental Health Foundation ACT inc

Mental Health Foundation can help you with information, support groups, residential respite care for family members with mental health issues, outreach support, skills programs, counseling and a whole lot more. MS Society

The best place to go to get information and support regarding MS is, surprise surprise, the MS Society. The MS Society assists people with MS and related neurological disorders and their families by offering counseling, information, referral, advocacy, community education, hospital and home visits and providing links with community services. Skills for Carers provides individuals or small group training for carers of any age. Learn how to deal with stress, do your first aid certificate, learn how to look after yourself… and heaps heaps more!

                                                                                                                                                 

St Nicholas’ Young Carers Program – St Vincent de Paul Society

St Vincent de Paul runs camps, catch-up days, trips to Sydney, the coast, and other fun stuff for young carers aged between 9 and 15. The young carers program, St Nicks, is a program run by young people for young people. As well as being a chance to have some time out, the St Nicks program brings young carers together for support, for challenges and for opportunities to talk about things that are important in their lives.

Youth in the City is the name of the youth centre in Civic which offers a whole range of supports including case management, emergency relief, and family support as well as the Big Pig Internet café where you can jump on a computer, play some pool or ping-pong or just have a chat with a worker.

                                                                                                                                                 

YWCA Youth Services - SCOPE

Scope offers one to one support to all young people aged 12 – 25 in the ACT.  CYOSS can meet you to have a chat or work with you over a longer period.  It’s an outreach service, so staff can come and meet you somewhere safe and convenient.  They can also go to appointments with you, help you get information and link you up with other services. 

Scope also provides information to young people in the ACT. If you or a group of friends are interested in getting information on ANYTHING – AXYS can design a group according to your needs and have a wide range of information that you can access.
